Our Foods I students have been busy in the kitchen learning hands-on skills that bring recipes to life! This week, students focused on cooking with eggs and milk while creating chocolate crusts, chocolate pies, and meringue from scratch.
From carefully separating eggs to whipping the perfect meringue, these students took the lead in every step of the process. They worked together, encouraged one another, and showed patience and attention to detail as they learned new techniques.
It’s exciting to see our students building confidence in the kitchen—measuring, mixing, baking, and presenting their finished products with pride. Not only are they learning how to cook, but they are also developing teamwork, responsibility, and real-world skills that will serve them well beyond the classroom.

FCS Update 🙌
We were truly blessed during our FCS gathering as Neal Marshall shared a powerful message from Mark 10:46–52. Through the story of blind Bartimaeus, we were reminded that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the light—and that when we call on Him, He hears us.
One of the most meaningful parts of today was seeing how our students are not just listening, but actively living out and sharing God’s message. Our youth are stepping up boldly in their faith—encouraging one another, participating in discussions, and reflecting on how they can grow closer to God each day. It is inspiring to witness their willingness to speak, pray, and lead with confidence.
We talked about the idea of “standing still.” It’s easy to become comfortable and stay where we are, but if we remain still, we aren’t moving closer to God. Our students were challenged to take that step forward—to grow, to trust, and to follow where God is leading them. Our Chess Club has been mixing things up lately by exploring some wild and exciting chess variants! We've been testing our strategies and bending our brains with 3-player, 4-player, and even 1-D chess. 🤯
But we didn’t stop there... we also took a trip back in time! ⏳ We learned how to play Hnefatafl, an awesome Viking strategy game dating all the way back to around 400 AD. 🛡️⚔️ It was an incredible way to see how strategy games have evolved over the centuries, and a really fun challenge for the club.

This experience goes beyond a competition. Students learned:

✔️ How food insecurity impacts local families
✔️ The value of teamwork and leadership
✔️ That small contributions can make a BIG difference

Who knew frosting could turn into fine art AND a full arm workout? 💪😂 Our Foods 1 students put their creativity (and patience!) to the test as they learned the basics of cake decorating—and let’s just say, we have some future bakers in the making!
From piping techniques to color design, students practiced skills like:
✔️ Proper icing consistency
✔️ Piping and decorating techniques
✔️ Creativity and presentation
✔️ And… cleaning up a LOT of frosting 😅
Some cakes turned out Pinterest-worthy… others were more “abstract expressionism” 🎨😂—but every student gained hands-on experience and had a great time doing it!

Our amazing students and teachers pulled out all the stops—showcasing the wide variety of classes we offer and giving our visitors a true hands-on experience. From interactive displays to real-world demonstrations, these future high schoolers got a glimpse of what makes North Stokes such a special place to learn and grow. 💡📚
Whether exploring Health Sciences, the arts, or other exciting pathways, students had the chance to ask questions, try new things, and start imagining their future as Vikings! 💚
