But this activity is about more than just making something yummy—it’s a chance for students to practice important nutrition and food preparation skills!

🎃 Pumpkin Power: Pumpkin provides nutrients like vitamin A and fiber, making it a flavorful addition to recipes.

💚 North Stokes Spotlight: Mandee Bennett — 30 Years of Teaching, Coaching & Viking Pride 🦅
Mandee Bennett is happily married to her high school sweetheart, Eric Bennett, and together they have two wonderful children. Their son, Bryson, is in his senior year at UNC Chapel Hill, while their son Braydon is in his senior year at North Stokes. These three men keep Mandee on her toes every day, and she knows she could not do what she does without them.
Mandee lives on a farm filled with chickens, goats, cows, dogs, cats, and a horse. Her family also raises 40 acres of tobacco each year, so she says that “rest” is not really in her vocabulary. Leaving work each day simply means another adventure is waiting for her on the farm!
She feels incredibly blessed to live in such a wonderful community—one where she can hear the crickets and see the stars at night. Her community, along with the love and support of her family, has helped keep her going through the years. Mandee is a member of Stoney Ridge Baptist Church, where she considers the people there nothing short of a true blessing.
Mandee is in her 30th year of teaching, which she still finds hard to believe! She began her teaching career at South Stokes in 1997. After about two and a half years, she was finally able to “come home” to North Stokes, where she has been ever since. She describes North Stokes as a hidden jewel of a place to work and feels incredibly blessed in so many ways to be part of the school community.
For the past 15 years, Mandee has supported the Fellowship of Christian Students. One of the most rewarding parts of that experience has been watching young people grow in their faith.
Mandee is also celebrating her 30th year of coaching. Over the years, she has coached many teams and athletes, but this year she feels especially lucky to coach this wonderful group of young ladies in tennis.
Mandee believes the Lord knew exactly what He was doing when He led her to North Stokes. In her final year of teaching, she feels especially blessed to have great people to work with, wonderful people she can call family, supportive parents, and an amazing group of young ladies to coach.
Adding to the blessing, Mandee is getting to coach alongside her childhood friend, Tiffany Cone, as well as one of her favorite coaches of all time, Mr. “Mac” McKenzie.

Today, the Fellowship of Christian Students (FCS) had a special visit from Mr. Gerald Jones, who shared an encouraging message with our students about hope, faith, and Jesus Christ.
Mr. Jones encouraged students to come out and be part of the upcoming Stokes County Christian Youth Rally at North Stokes High School on Sunday, October 18, from 5:00–7:30 PM! 🙌
And he left our students with a simple but powerful reminder—he gave each student a Life Saver. 🍬

🍞🧀 Learning Through Cooking in Foods 1! 🧀🍞
Our Foods 1 students put their culinary skills to work by making delicious Red Lobster-style Cheddar Bay Biscuits! 👩🍳👨🍳
This hands-on activity was about much more than making a tasty snack. Students practiced:
🔹 Measuring accurately — learning how precision affects the final product
🔹 Following a recipe — reading and following directions in sequence
🔹 Baking techniques — learning how ingredients interact during the baking process
🔹 Kitchen safety & sanitation — using equipment properly and maintaining a clean workspace
🔹 Teamwork & time management — working together to complete each step efficiently
🔹 Food science — observing how ingredients combine and how heat transforms the dough into a finished product
The best classroom lessons are sometimes the ones you can measure, mix, bake, and taste! 😋

🌟 STAFF SPOTLIGHT: WELCOME, ASHLEY EADES! 🌟
Please help us give a warm North Stokes High School welcome to our new Assistant Principal, Ashley Eades! 💚
Ashley brings 10 years of experience in education and an impressive background in both teaching and school leadership. She earned her degree in Elementary Education from North Carolina Central University and holds master’s degrees in Library Science and School Administration from Appalachian State University.
Before joining the North Stokes family, Ashley taught 7th Grade EC Inclusion at Meadowview Magnet Middle School in Surry County. She previously served as a Media Coordinator at Surry Central High School and taught 7th Grade ELA and Social Studies in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. We are excited to have her experience, knowledge, and passion for students here at NSHS!
Ashley has been married to her husband, Ty, for almost 24 years, and they have two children. Their son, Jay, 20, is a senior at UNC Wilmington, and their daughter, Evey Sam, 17, is a senior at Surry Early College. Their family also includes two beloved fur babies, Trout and Betty! 🐾🐾
When she isn't busy at school, Ashley loves to travel, play mahjong with her friends, and support her son when his band is playing locally. 🎶✈️🀄
Ashley shared, “I’m excited to join the North Stokes family because I’m looking forward to meeting new people, making connections, and being part of a community where everyone supports each other.”
